Memorable Moments Are Teachable MomentsValues

He had to have been tired as he pulled into the drive way but there I was waiting.  I was about eight years old at the time and I'd have a softball or a football in my hand. As soon as his foot hit the pavement and the car door closed behind him I tossed him the ball. As far as I could ever tell, he enjoyed these brief moments before dinner as much as I did.

How about you? Can you recall the times your parents tossed a ball or played a game with you? If so, then you may begin to realize the power of using brief moments of playful activity to introduce important concepts you want your child to remember. Take a memorable moment and make it a teachable moment.

I know it's Mother's Day but I'm thinking about fathers at the moment...

Finding Something You Love to Do

Love is a great motivator; probably the best. I want to wish all of my readers a Happy Easter as there is "no greater love than this that a man lay down his life for his friends". Whether that verse reminds you of your faith or perhaps of others such as soldiers, firemen, and law enforcement officials that lay down their lives sacrificially for the good of someone else; I hope this holiday finds you grateful for the love and service shown by others.

I am grateful for each and every one of you who take the time to read this blog and perhaps subscribe to the Exercising Values mailing list. I am also grateful to Vince DelMonte who recently did some special guest blog posts. We appreciate the gift of his knowledge and time. If you...

Continuing to Get Results Once the Transformation Is Over

Guest Post by Vince DelMonte

We are once again fortunate to hear from the creator of the number one selling muscle-building program on the internet according to clickbank, Vince DelMonte. Vince is a transformation expert having transformed both himself and hundreds of clients. Additionally, he's just a great guy who is willing to help new trainers learn how to be more effective. Here he is addressing the staff of Heritage College who allowed themselves to be trained for ten weeks by personal training students. He is keenly interested in seeing that people get results so he offers this advice for anyone coming to the end of a transformation effort. Here's Vince:

Time Management is Time Well Spent

It is so important to figure out how to spend our time. People are more important than projects but sometimes our projects are the way we support our families. In business you "only get paid for done" but with your family you get rewarded for doing, for being there. The key is keeping what’s essential in both projects and relationships and tossing out the time wasters in both. If someone wastes your money they are also wasting your time because at some point you traded your time for that money.

Exercising Values asks you to invest a little of your time each day to nudge your children in the right direction. It will give you ideas, structure and accountability.  All the planning is done for you so you can relax and enjoy a...

It's OK to Take Care of Yourself

Many busy moms will let their appearance and fitness slide in the effort to take care of everyone else. With a little creativity you can take care of yourself while also providing a program that builds health, character, and even exposure to great literature for your children. Rather than taking anything away from your children when you do this program you get leaner and less stressed and they get a wonderful physical education plus program

In the program Exercising Values Iʼll give you short but effective workouts that busy families can do together. It is designed to be fun and educational while building a solid foundation for a lifetime of fitness. To truly influence our children toward...

Age, Gender and Variability in Results

Guest Post by Vince DelMonte

Vince DelMonte has kindly agreed to do a couple guest blogs in order to help all of us understand how our individual differences effect our attempts to lose fat and gain muscle. In particular he is addressing the Heritage College personal training students as they put the staff of the college through a ten-week transformation contest. For most of the students this represents their very first client.

Let's look at the results Vince has gotten with himself and with clients so you'll understand why I asked him to be a part of this first time endeavor at the school. In his own words here is Vince:

Why Would You – Or Should You – Listen To Me?

Hi. My name is Vince DelMonte....

Teamwork Works

I got my debut as a coach when I was a senior in college at Stanford. That's not the cheapest place to get an education so I worked several jobs. One that I remember quite fondly was nanny to a fourth and second grader, Jennifer and Michael. Jennifer was thoughtful, even wise if a ten-year old can be considered wise. Michael was a tow-headed bundle of energy. I worked for a single mom who worked for Stanford by day and left her children in my care while she went to lawschool in the evenings. She was funny, upbeat and also full of energy. I liked sharing her house and her family for that brief year.

I got the idea that it would be sad if Michael could never contribute a coach to the parenting pool so when he signed up for T-ball I...

10 Things You Can Do To Lose Fat Without Even Trying

Guest Post by Nick Nilsson

Fat loss doesn't have to be painful. Try these simple tips and you'll see just how easy it can be.

1. Eat smaller more frequent meals - not only is your metabolism boosted every time you eat something, your body can more efficiently process smaller meals. Instead of having 3 large meals in a day, try to break them up into 5 or 6 smaller meals.

2. Drink more water - regular water intake helps to flush away waste products in the body. Get at least six to eight 8 oz. glasses per day. An easy way to do this is to keep a water bottle handy and drink from it frequently.

3. Be inefficient - do you need to go to the kitchen to get a couple of things? Break it up into to two trips even if you can do...

An INSANELY EFFECTIVE Abdominal Exercise That Leaves You Crawling... Literally!

Guest Post by Nick Nilsson

Looking for an abominal exercise that will TRASH your entire core in a way you've NEVER experienced before? This one will do it... it's an exercise that hits not only your core but your shoulders, back and chest as well!

I have to say, this is one of THE strangest abdominal exercises you'll ever see...but also one of THE most effective! You're not going to be doing any crunching or twisting or squeezing. There are no machines involved...no need to even focus on contracting the core muscles.

Because once you start doing this exercise, your body will have NO CHOICE but to fire the abs HARD in order to do it!

For this exercise, all you need is a pair of dumbells and a floor. That's it!

The dumbells should be a...

Spice It Up to Burn Body Fat

Friends have a way of spicing up our lives. They challenge us to try new things. They root for us and hope for our success. Today a friend of mine has offered to guest blog. I hope you find his information helpful. I use a couple of the products he has written and he is one of the trainers I never hesitate to recommend. See what you think.

Burn More Bodfyat With Spices
[ Editor's Note:  Fitness author Jon Benson shared this letter with me and gave me permission to share it with you. ]

It's the spice of life.

Food that is. Or opinions. I guess there is a lot of things that are officially "the spice of life."

I think spices are the spice of life.

I have a new-found love of spices since hanging around a killer healthy-food chef for the...
