Extraordinary Care: The Key to Raising Extraordinary Children

character exercise family life goals sports

I just returned from receiving extraordinary care from the Team USA chiropractor. Yesterday I could not run because of searing pain in my right calf but I left with my leg all taped in blue kineseology tape and my hopes high that I’ll be able to do the race I for which I trained. Most of the people I’ve met so far recount their various Worlds experiences but this is my first time at Worlds and I’m thrilled not just to be here but to receive the support you get as part of Team USA. I’m a pretty ordinary athlete but receiving extraordinary care makes me feel special and more capable.

Naturally, this got me thinking about the goal of Exercising Values which is to help parents raise extraordinary children.  In this day and age parents who plan to teach their children character and set aside time each day to do so are a bit extraordinary. Parents who teach their children to love physical fitness through example and by doing it with their children are also extraordinary. The Exercising Values program allows you to do both in 15-20 minutes a day.

Traveling all the way to Perth, Australia for this race is much different than traveling for a vacation. Everything you do or don’t do is determined by how it will effect the race. Ordinarily I would have been to the beach by now but instead I’m staying out of the sun except for bike rides. I’ll be training and racing with my leg taped so I’ll have more interesting tan lines than usual but this tape is my best friend now. The tape, rest, hydration, and focused training are all part of the preparation.

In the same way, dedicated parents set aside lesser important things and adjust their habits and priorities in order to do the best parenting they can. They understand that parenting involves time, sacrifice, focused goals, and immeasurable joy and satisfaction. Sometimes they seek support from others just as I relied on the team chiropractor today.

As the parent you are on the front line but I hope that Exercising Values will give you support when you need it. That tape is holding my leg together so it can heal and so I can race. The section of Exercising Values called Mom’s Moments is especially designed to hold frazzled moms together and to help them take care of themselves. Then they’ll be ready to return to the “race” of raising healthy, happy children. When you give them extraordinary care they will feel special and more capable and you’ll know that you are doing your very best on their behalf.
