Family Fitness Fun

I'm happily living vicariously through my son who got up for the first time on a surf board today. I was raised on Gidget movies and always thought I'd surf someday but never got around to it. So I'm thrilled to think of him riding his first wave in. While he was doing that I was watching my grandson's eyes light up when he received his first bike today on his two year old birthday. He said, "wow, bike" and my day was made.

It's an amazing thing how happy a parent or grandparent can be when their children are happy. Next week I set out to ride my bike across Oregon and that's pleasure that is not vicarious but first-hand. In life, you have to have both: the happiness you get from enabling someone else to be happy and the happiness you get from doing something you truly love to do.

I hope that Exercising Values will provide parents with a little of both kinds of happiness. I hope you'll enjoy the fun your children have with you while doing the program and I hope it will also be fun for you. I hope you enjoy the added energy being fit will give you. This is Labor Day weekend. I'll still teach a 5:30am cycle class on Monday but that's a job that's more fun than work. It's great when you can say that about any job, including parenting.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend. I'm always reluctant to see the summer end and will try to squeeze out every moment of outdoor fun. I hope you enjoy a lot of fun family time and get refreshed and renewed. Try to think of ways to make it memorable for someone else and I guarantee it will be more fun for you, too.
